Privacy Policy — Social Connect (Meta App)

Last Updated: July 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the Social Connect app ("the App", "we", "us") as registered on the Meta App Dashboard and its use of the Meta Graph API and Marketing API, covering Facebook Pages, Instagram professional accounts, and Meta ad accounts ("Meta Platform"). It describes what data we access through the Meta Platform, how that data is used, stored, shared, and deleted, in accordance with the Meta Platform Terms and Developer Policies.

This policy is specific to our use of Meta APIs. Social Connect also connects to X (Twitter) via its own API — that access is covered by the same practices described here, applied to the X Platform instead of Meta.

1. What the App Does

Social Connect is a Shopify application that lets an e-commerce merchant connect their own Facebook Page, Instagram professional account, and X account to their Shopify store, so they can compose a single post or ad campaign and publish it across every connected platform at once. The merchant authorizes the App via Facebook Login for Business (for Facebook/Instagram) or X's OAuth 2.0 flow (for X), and the App then calls the relevant platform's API on the merchant's behalf.

2. Data We Access via the Meta Platform

Through the Meta Platform, the App accesses and processes:

  • Page and Account Data: The Facebook Page ID, Page name, Page access token, and the ID/username of any Instagram professional account linked to that Page
  • Ad Account Data: Ad account ID and a long-lived user access token, used only if the merchant chooses to build a paid ad campaign
  • Content the Merchant Publishes: The caption text, media (images/video URLs hosted on the merchant's own Shopify store), and destination links the merchant writes and submits for publishing
  • Performance Data: Public post and ad insights for content the merchant published through the App (likes, comments, shares, impressions, clicks, and spend)

We do not access a customer's or any third party's personal Facebook or Instagram profile, friends list, personal posts, or any Meta consumer-product data. All data above is scoped to Pages, Instagram accounts, and ad accounts the merchant explicitly connects and controls.

3. How We Use Platform Data

Data obtained through the Meta Platform ("Platform Data") is used exclusively to operate the App's core function: publishing the merchant's own content to their own connected accounts. Specifically, we use Platform Data to:

  • Publish organic posts the merchant composes to their connected Facebook Page and/or Instagram account, immediately or on a schedule they set
  • Build paid ad campaigns (campaign, ad set, and creative) that the merchant configures — these are always created in a paused state; the App never activates ad spend without the merchant's explicit action in the platform's own Ads Manager
  • Display post and campaign performance back to the merchant inside the App
  • Diagnose and fix publishing failures or integration issues

We do not:

  • Sell, license, or rent Platform Data to any third party
  • Use Platform Data to build advertising audiences for any purpose outside the merchant's own campaigns they configure inside the App
  • Share Platform Data with data brokers
  • Use Platform Data for any purpose beyond providing the App's publishing functionality to the merchant who authorized the connection

4. Data Isolation and Access

Each merchant's Platform Data (access tokens, connected account details, posts, and campaigns) is isolated to that merchant's Shopify store and is not visible or accessible to any other merchant using the App. Access to Platform Data is limited to the systems and personnel required to operate and support the App. Page and ad account access tokens are encrypted at rest.

5. Sharing of Platform Data

Platform Data is shared only:

  • With Meta: As inherently required to publish posts and manage ad campaigns via the Graph API and Marketing API
  • With Infrastructure Providers: Hosting and database providers that store the data on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality obligations, and who do not use the data for their own purposes
  • As Required by Law: If compelled by legal process or to comply with applicable regulation

We do not otherwise disclose Platform Data to any third party.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain connection credentials and post/campaign history for as long as the merchant's Facebook Page, Instagram account, or ad account remains connected to the App, so that publishing history and performance data remain available to the merchant.

Data Deletion Requests: A merchant may disconnect any connected account at any time from within the App's Connections page, which removes the stored access token for that account. A merchant may also request deletion of associated post or campaign history by contacting us at the email address below. We will act on verified deletion requests within a reasonable time. See our Data Deletion Instructions for the full process.

7. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to Platform Data, including encryption of access tokens at rest. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Data

The App is intended for use by business merchants and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process data belonging to children through the App.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, the Meta Platform Terms, or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above.
